Septic Information

THE SEPTIC SYSTEM

Septic systems are underground wastewater treatment plants, commonly used in rural areas away from centralized sewer systems. The treatment process is a combination of nature and proven technology from the household. Cleaning durations will depend on the size and number of residents, their personal water usage and water using appliances in the home. On average it should be 3-5 years between cleanings to avoid damage. You never want the sludge or scum layers of your tank to fill more than approximately 30% of your tank’s volume.

THE SEPTIC TANK

A septic tank is an underground chamber made of concrete, fiberglass, or plastic through which domestic wastewater (sewage) flows for basic treatment. “Septic” is the anaerobic bacterial environment that develops in the tank that decomposes or mineralizes the waste discharge in the tank. The septic tank removes settleables and floatable solids from the waste water. The soil absorption field then filters and treats the clarified septic tank effluent and distributes it through the soil. Removing the solids from the wastewater protects the soil absorption system from clogging and failure. In addition to removing solids, the septic tank also promotes biological digestion of a portion of the solids and stores the remaining undigested portion. If solids overflow it will cause backups, septic fields to flood and fail. Bacterial deficiency and infrequent pumping cycles are two main factors why this occurs.

Our Tank pumping Service & Maintenance

Our pumping service will include pumping out all the material from your tank. The scum layer must be disrupted and the sludge layer mixed with the liquid portion in your tank. The goal is to remove the scum and sludge layers during the pumping process so the entire septic system performs efficiently. A neglected system will overflow and back up, polluting ground water, have extremely unpleasant odours and probably have to be replaced.
